Sensitive Toothpaste Can Help!

 In News

If you have ever cringed at the thought of eating ice-cream or any other cold foods, because your teeth hurt – you are probably suffering from sensitive teeth. The causes of sensitive teeth can vary, there are some toothpaste solutions that can help.

Toothpastes that are made for sensitive teeth contain two important ingredients that help reduce the pain. These ingredients are, potassium nitrate and strontium chloride. These ingredients work by acting on your dental tubules. These are small tubes that go from the outside of your teeth to your dental pulp. If the tube is open, you will feel sensations more easily.

Potassium nitrate decreases sensitivity by entering the tubules and it’s ions block the pain signal that is usually transmitted to the brain. Over time, potassium nitrate can build up in the tubules, which can give you longer lasting relief.

Strontium chloride works by covering up the holes of the tubules. If the tubules are open, it is easier for sensations of pain to be transferred. Closing these holes helps to prevent pain sensitivity.

Have you tried sensitive toothpaste? There are also other solutions to tooth sensitivity which may make the enjoyment of some of your favourite foods and drinks much more comfortable. Be sure to consult with us at Exploits Valley Dental Office in Grand Falls-Winsdor.
