Canadian Dental Care Plan

Local CDCP appointment guidance for patients

The Canadian Dental Care Plan may help eligible Canadians cover part of their dental care costs. Our team can answer appointment-related questions and help you understand what to bring before your dental visit.

If you are booking with CDCP, the goal is to make the visit feel straightforward. Call before your appointment if you have questions about what to bring, how coverage works, or whether a service may require additional review.

How it works

Before and during the appointment

Step 1

Apply for the CDCP or renew your coverage directly through the Government of Canada and wait for confirmation that your coverage is active before booking treatment.

Step 2

Bring your CDCP member information, identification, medication list, and any questions about costs, co-payments, or preauthorization to your appointment.

Step 3

Before treatment starts, ask about any amounts the CDCP may not cover, including co-payments, services beyond plan limits, or services that require preauthorization.

  • File their 2025 tax return in Canada, including their spouse or common-law partner’s return, if applicable.
  • Receive their 2025 Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Wait for a determination letter once eligibility has been assessed.

How Clients Renew

  • Through My Service Canada Account
  • Online at Canada.ca/dental
  • By phone at 1-833-537-4342 — TTY: 1-833-677-6262

Important Reminder for Patients

  • Coverage and co-payment levels may change after renewal.
  • Clients who remain eligible will keep the same CDCP member ID and file.
  • Frequency limits do not reset when the member ID remains the same.
  • If renewal is late, a gap in coverage may occur.
  • Services received during a coverage gap are not covered and will not be reimbursed retroactively.

Do You Qualify?

To be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You do not have access to dental insurance.
  • Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.
  • You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • You filed your tax return for the previous year.

All criteria must be met to qualify for the CDCP.

Covered care

Services Covered

The Canadian Dental Care Plan helps cover a portion of the cost for a wide range of oral health care services.

Note: Some services and additional treatments beyond established frequency limits will require preauthorization by the CDCP. This means we will recommend treatment, and the CDCP will determine if it will be covered. Preauthorization must occur before receiving the treatment.

  • Your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $89,999.
  • The cost of your oral health care services exceeds the reimbursement limits set by the CDCP.
  • You and your oral health provider agree on services that are not covered by the CDCP.
